Genmaicha has a long history in Japan and is sometimes known as “the people’s tea.” Traditionally, toasted rice was added to tea to extend precious leaves, making it more affordable — but over time, the flavour became so loved that it became a classic in its own right.

The addition of rice gives this tea its signature warm, nutty, almost popcorn-like aroma, while also softening the intensity and reducing astringency, making it especially approachable for those new to green tea.
